Self Reflection
China’s magical creatures is one of the most interesting classes that I have taken so far. The texts are fascinating and I am learning so much about Ancient China. That said, sometimes the texts can be kind of confusing. It is hard for me to understand sometimes, especially because of the lack of tone markings over the occasional pinyin in the text. I think that I need to read the texts a little more carefully so I absolutely understand what we are talking about in the lesson.
I use the weekly reflection as a method to reinforce my understanding of that week’s lesson, especially if I didn’t fully understand the homework at the beginning of the week. I also try to word it of the week. I also try to word it my reflections so that people who don’t know much about Chinese history and mythology could understand it after reading my reflection. It is also easier for my to fully understand it if I “simplify” it in a way. The weekly reflections helps me go into depth with what I learned and show that I understand the lesson.
One thing I need to work on it connecting the lessons and bringing in outside information. As of right now, I think that I have really just been reiteration what the lesson was saying. I think ai could make my reflections much more interesting if I brought in information from other lessons.
In this course I gave learned many important things about ancient China that I hadn’t known before, I love learning about the ancient traditions of China. It is a country that I have always been interested in learning about. It has such a rich culture that has changed so much while still keeping certain parts of ancient traditions. I think that spirits, while not necessarily ghosts, are always going to be important throughout Chinese history, Respect for the elements and the balance of the universe will be a theme that shows up throughout the course of the history.
I would give myself a B+ because I think that I write pretty good reflections on my website. I think Chinese history is super interesting and I want to continue learning. I don’t think my reflections are perfect and I definitely don’t think that I understand everything that I need to. I think that if I work on my reflections more and take more detailed notes, then I will be better.
